Serving common people is top priority, says Scindia
5/9/2008 11:24:00 PM

Bhopal, May 9 (IANS) Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Jyotiraditya Scindia said here Friday that he was interested in serving the common people irrespective of what position he held.

Speaking to reporters here, Scindia said his first priority would be to fulfil the responsibility given to him by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

He added that new steps have been taken to improve the telecommunication sector and 'the efforts made by me will start showing results in a couple of months'.

In order to solve the congestion problems in the mobile network, the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) would soon install 2,790 Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers in Madhya Pradesh with special focus on cities like Bhopal, Gwalior and Jabalpur, the minister added.

Scindia also said the government would take necessary steps for the betterment of the posts and telegraph department employees who were doing a great job by acting as a bridge among people.

SWAN (state-wide area network), which would connect the development blocks to the centre would also become a reality soon. The basic infrastructure for SWAN costing Rs.4.8 billion, would be completed in two years, the minister said.
