John McCain's caddish behaviour during first marriage comes under the scanner
6/11/2008 3:46:00 PM

New York, June 11 (ANI): Critics of the presumptive Republican Party nominee for President of the US, John McCain, believe that he may have difficulties explaining his caddish behaviour during his first marriage with Carol, the woman who waited for him while he was a prisoner in Vietnam.

Media reports suggest that people are once again looking at McCaine's relationship with Carol.

McCaine first met Carol, a former swimsuit model, in the 1950s when he was attending the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.

At the time, Carol was married to another Annapolis cadet, Alasdair Swanson, with whom she had two children.

On Monday, Swanson denied comment on speculations that McCain played a role in his break up with Carol.

However, Carol herself blamed last week McCain's post-Vietnam randiness for rupturing their own relationship.

My marriage ended because John McCain didn't want to be 40 - he wanted to be 25, the New York Daily News quoted her as telling Britain's Mail on Sunday.

Apart from this, McCain himself admitted being unfaithful to Carol in his memoir 'Faith of My Fathers'.

Some of McCain's critics believe that when he returned home, he found that Carol had been disfigured in a near-fatal car accident on Christmas Eve, 1969.

They even point out that McCain married Cindy, heiress to a brewery fortune, just a month after his divorce from Carol was finalised.

When he came home and saw that Carol was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her. ... Eventually, he met Cindy, and she was young and beautiful and very wealthy, said Ted Sampley, who fought with the Army's Special Forces in Vietnam and knows McCain.

However, Carol is still said to be supporting McCaine's campaign.

He's a good guy. We are still good friends. He is the best man for President, she said. (ANI)
