When Karat flashed a smile at journalists
7/9/2008 5:10:00 PM

New Delhi, July 9 (IANS) Communist leader Prakash Karat, addressing the media Wednesday, was going hammer and tongs at the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government but there was a light moment when he smiled at journalists.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary said his organisation would bring out a book on the party's notes to the Manmohan Singh government, explaining the left's contentions about the India-US civil nuclear deal and the government's responses.

He said the journalists would have to buy it as the party was not so rich to distribute free copies.

'We will be giving a copy each to the editors and to the news organisation. Since we cannot give it to you free, you will have to buy it. The Left is not so rich. It will be available at a reasonable price,' he said.

During his 20-minute press meet, that was the only time he smiled.
