Nepal Maoists reject demand to review Peace Accord
10/12/2009 12:36:00 PM

Kathmandu, Oct 12 (ANI): Maoist Vice Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai has slammed Defense Minister Bidhya Bhandari's recent statement at the parliament's State Affairs Committee that provisions in the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) had hindered the works of the Nepal Army and that the CPA should be reviewed.

Organising a press conference, Dr Bhattarai has said the Defence Minister's remarks were irresponsible and objectionable.

He said Bhandari's remarks were against the spirit of the CPA and the Interim Constitution.

Nowhere in the world have peace agreements been reviewed. It is beyond our understanding if she is saying this consciously, he added.

Defence Minister Bhandari had earlier complained that some conditions laid down in the Comprehensive Peace Accord have affected the improvement, training and other refreshing activities of the national army.

Dr Bhattarai also accused Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal of siphoning off Government funds and distributing money to his party cadres.

Even through the budget has not been passed, the Prime Minister has emptied the relief fund in just two months by handing out money to his cadres, Nepalnews quoted him as saying. (ANI)
