Agra varsity students forcibly close colleges
11/7/2009 11:42:00 PM

Agra, Nov 7 (IANS) Hundreds of students of the Dr. B.R.Ambedkar University took to the streets Saturday afternoon forcibly closing down all colleges, to protest the assault on students, including on girls, Friday by varsity employees.

The agitating students want assistant registrar Balaji Yadav sacked for allegedly instigating the employees to beat up the students, who had come to demand redressal of their grievances.

The university was forced to close by the demonstrators who later reached the Khandari campus to force closure of all the institutes there. Student leaders Saturday evening said the colleges would not be permitted to open till their demands were met.

Meanwhile, there has been wide and alarming reaction to Friday's violence on the campus, in particular, the beating of students by the employees. Some girl students also alleged attempts to molest them.

According to many academics, teachers have also taken exception at the ways of the employees, who have become a law unto themselves.

Vice chancellor K.N. Tripathi has refused to comment on the violent incidents, only saying if the matter was not resolved, it could impact studies and the examination schedule.
