Barack Obama bags popular at trade fair
11/20/2009 6:23:00 PM

New Delhi, Nov 20 (IANS) If you are a fan of US President Barack Obama and want to take him everywhere with you, then buy one of the many jute bags with images of him and his family on them available at the India International Trade Fair (IITF).

Priced at Rs.100, the bags are disappearing from the shelf at R.S. Creation at the Hong Kong section here. Youngsters are buying them in bulk because they find Obama 'cool'.

'Though these are jute bags, they look chic. Having images of iconic figures like Bob Marley, Che Guuvara is very common. But having the US President on your bag or T-shirt makes for a cool statement,' Manthan Arora, a student told IANS.

'Personally I find Obama very cool. So I am buying this bag and I would love to carry it everywhere,' he added.

The bags are available in various colours at the IITF which is on in Pragati Maidan.

According to Jatin Sahni of R.S. Creation, these bags were a part of the US election campaign.

'We had exported these bags to the US to be used as part of the election campaign. We thought it is a very good idea to bring them to India as well because Obama is a popular figure here,' Sahni told IANS.

'The response to these bags has been so fantastic that now only few bags are left. Youngsters liked these bags so much that they are taking in bulk because they are so well-priced,' he added.

Apart from that the Hong Kong stalls also offer soft blankets, towels with prints of Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Goofy, among others. These are priced between Rs.1,000-Rs.1,500.
