Driving brother Rahul - Priyanka shows how
11/20/2009 6:42:00 PM

Amethi (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 20 (IANS) A smiling Priyanka Gandhi drove her elder brother and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to his constituency Amethi after landing at the nearest airport Friday - all the while keeping the media at bay.

The charismatic Priyanka and Rahul reached the Fursatganj airport in Sultanpur district at around 11 a.m. She then took to the wheel in a green Toyota Qualis and set out for Amethi to meet Congress functionaries and Women's Self Help Groups (SHGs).

'She insisted on driving the vehicle and Rahul took the adjacent seat. They reached Angrawaan village of Gauriganj block at around 12.30 p.m. to attend a meeting of SHGs,' state Congress spokesperson A.P. Singh told IANS.

They spent about an hour with the women and left for Munshiganj, he said.

The media was kept about four kilometres away from the VIP cavalcade as there had been a reported security breach earlier this year.

While Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi left for New Delhi at around 5 p.m., Priyanka went to the Pande Ka Purwa village in Munshiganj block to attend another SHG meeting.

Both of them maintained a distance from the media.

'Priyanka's husband, Robert Vadra, will be reaching here late tonight or Saturday morning to join her,' a Congress source said.

Priyanka will take part in other similar programmes Saturday, Singh added.
