Lahore lawyers condemn suicide blasts
11/20/2009 9:19:00 PM

Lahore, Nov 20 (IANS) The Human Rights Committee of the Lahore High Court Bar Association has condemned suicide attacks and the use of violence against innocent lives, saying there is no justification in Islam for terrorism.

'All acts of terrorism targeting civilians are haram (forbidden) in Islam. It is haram for a Muslim to cooperate with any individual or group that is involved in any act of terrorism or violence. It is the civic and religious duty of Muslims to cooperate with law enforcement authorities to protect the lives of all civilians,' the committee said in a statement Friday.

'We as a nation must support our army and government in their fight against terrorism,' the statement added.

The northwestern city of Peshawar has witnessed nine terror attacks since early October that have claimed over 240 lives and injured many more.

The city witnessed this year's worst terror attack Oct 28 when a massive explosion in a crowded market killed 117 people and injured over 200.

This apart, there have been terror strikes in Islamabad and Lahore.

The attacks have been blamed on the Taliban, which is battling the Pakistani military in the rugged South Waziristan region along the border with Afghanistan. The military has claimed considerable success in the operations.
