Chandigarh cyber cafes raided, many found flouting rules
11/20/2009 9:58:00 PM

Chandigarh, Nov 20 (IANS) The Chandigarh police Friday conducted surprise raids at various cyber cafes in this union territory and found over a dozen cafes were not keeping proper records of the customers.

'Surprise raids, under the supervision of the sub-divisional magistrate (south), were conducted today at cyber cafes in Sector 44 and at Burail village here.

'Various cafes were found not complying with the directions issued by the deputy commissioner,' said a spokesperson here Friday late evening.

'The accused cyber cafes were found allowing customers to surf the internet without providing adequate identification and were not maintaining proper registers of the visitors or users identity. Inquiry against errant cyber cafe owners is being initiated.'

However, the police are yet to register a case against the cafe owners.

'So far we have not registered any case. We are recording the statements of cafe owners. Only after proper verification we will take action,' Uday Pal, station house officer of Sector 34 (under whose jurisdiction Sector 44 and village Burail fall), told IANS here late Friday evening.
