Improvement in law and order situation in north-eastern States: Govt.

New Delhi, March 16 (ANI): Union Government on Tuesday stated that there has been some improvement in the overall militancy situation in the North East in the last year though militancy related incidents continue in some States.

According to the Government, the data on violent incidents in North Eastern States, State-wise, for the years 2008 and 2009 is as under:

There is no report of any permanent camp of the ULFA in Arunachal Pradesh, although there are reports of some activities of ULFA in the State, the government has stated.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday said that the Central Government has deployed Central Security Forces to aid the State authorities for carrying out counter insurgency operations and providing security for vulnerable institutions and installations; shared intelligence on continuous basis; gave inancial assistance for strengthening of the local Police Forces and intelligence agencies under the Police Modernization Scheme; and provided assistance for strengthening various aspects of the ecurity apparatus and counter-insurgency operations, by way reimbursement of Security Related Expenditure. Central Government also assists the States for raising of additional Forces in the form of India Reserve Battalions. (ANI)
