Man U seal 20m pound deal to sign Benfica's Nicolas Gaitan
4/16/2012 5:53:00 PM

London, Apr 16 (ANI): Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign of 20 million pound deal for S L Benfica midfielder Nicol?s Gait?n in exchange for Fabio da Silva and Federico Macheda moving to the Portuguese club.

According to The Telegraph, the deal is likely to see Fabio going only for a season long loan, while Macheda's transfer could be a permanent one. The figures are unlikely to be disclosed.

Gaitan, who can play as an attacking midfielder or left-sided winger, gained the limelight in Benfica's Champions League campaign this season when they faced both United and Chelsea.

Macheda, the 20-year-old Italian striker, is on loan to the Queens Park Rangers, but has failed to make an impression after a handful of appearances and has returned to United after suffering an ankle injury.

Reports claim that the inclusion of players would be an attraction for Benfica who have to pay Gaitan's former club, Boca Juniors, 20 per cent of any transfer fee. United had initially hoped to agree a deal in January but will now conclude the transfer in June.

Although the Brazilian full back, Fabio, featured in United Champions League final defeat to Barcelona last season, he has failed to progress as expected

Fabio will go on loan next season to give him concentrated first-team experience. We have already talked to him and he understands the value of playing regularly at a higher level than we can give him at the moment, Ferguson was quoted as saying.

Gait?n, with his undoubted talent had also attracted the likes of Inter Milan and Paris St-Germain, and United had been in talks for several months, trying to structure the deal with the Portuguese club which now finally was signed. (ANI)
