News Corp's Oz arm News Limited set to cut up to 400 editorial jobs
5/28/2012 2:00:00 PM

London, May 28 (ANI): News Limited, the Australian arm of Rupert Murdoch's media firm News Corporation has planned to shed up to 400 jobs in the editorial department.

The media firm will announce major job cuts as it restructures its print publishing business to ensure its survival in a digital future.

While a number of jobs have disappeared over the past six months in a program of discrete redundancies, insiders say a 'significant announcement' of further cuts is expected next Monday, The Age reports.

A spokesman for News did not directly address the issue of numbers, saying it did not want to provide 'running commentary' on its plans.

'News Ltd is undergoing a substantial transformation aimed at improving our business and the quality of our products, the report quoted the spokesman, as saying.

The firm said it would ensure any changes would be made with 'minimal disruption'.

According to the report, the move came as the latest step in a slow, but steady program to re-engineer News Ltd to cope better with the structural changes affecting the media industry, where the pace of readers and advertising dollars migrating online has quickened. (ANI)
