Kolkata, May 28 (IANS) The Kolkata Knight Riders' Indian Premier League triumph has for a change brought West Bengal's bitter political foes together.
While Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress supremo, announced a gala reception for the team, opposition and Marxist leader Surjya Kanta Mishra said he relished KKR's victory.
Banerjee said her government would felicitate the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned team at the Eden Gardens with a big cake, sweets and a cultural programme.
Bengali bands Chandrabindu, Dohar and Bhoomi will belt out their peppy numbers. Ahead of that, the KKR team will hold a six-km victory parade in south Kolkata.
This is a big achievement. We are all proud. Shah Rukh (Khan) is our brand ambassador and his team has won. So we want to felicitate the winners, Banerjee said at the secretariat.
Mishra said he saw the entire match.
It was a very special feeling. I was all the more happy that two Bengali boys, Manoj Tiwary and (Bangladesh's) Shakib Al Hasan were at the crease when the victory came, he said.
