Four Britons, Indian held in Bali cocaine case
5/28/2012 8:55:00 PM

London, May 28 (IANS) Four Britons and an Indian have been arrested in Bali for allegedly smuggling cocaine into the country, it was reported here Monday.

Lindsay Sandiford, from Redcar in Britain, was arrested after carrying 4.7 kg of cocaine in her suitcase as she arrived in Denpasar from Bangkok May 19, The Independent said.

It is believed police then convinced Sandiford to take part in a controlled delivery, which led to the arrests of another British woman, two British men, and an Indian.

If convicted, the group faces a maximum penalty of death by firing squad. A total of 140 people are currently on death row in Indonesia for drugs offences, one third of them foreigners, the newspaper added.
