6/4/2012 1:49:00 PM

New York, June 4 (ANI): 'Snow White and the Huntsman' led the US and Canadian box office over the weekend, taking in 56.3 million dollars in sales and in the process dethroned 'Men in Black 3' from the top spot.

Overseas, the Universal Pictures' action-adventure take on the classic fairy tale added 39.3 million-dollar in 45 markets, taking the worldwide total at 95.6 million-dollar for the movie that stars Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, the New York Post reported.

Meanwhile, MIB3, which slipped to second place, raised its domestic total to 112.3 million dollars after two weekends, with the worldwide haul topping 300 million dollars.

Disney's superhero blockbuster 'The Avengers' remained strong at No. 3 with 20.3 million dollars, lifting its domestic total to 552.7 million dollars.

'The Avengers' climbed past 'The Dark Knight' at 533.3 million dollars to become No. 3 all-time on the domestic revenue chart, behind 'Avatar' at 760.5 million dollars and 'Titanic' at 658.5 million dollars.

In one weekend, 'Snow White 'n' the Huntsman' pulled in nearly as much as the 62.4 million dollars that the year's previous Snow White adventure, 'Mirror Mirror,' took in domestically over its entire run.

Starring Julia Roberts as the wicked queen, 'Mirror Mirror' was a fairy-tale comedy that appealed mainly to female crowds. (ANI)
