After Sonia attack, BJP hits back
6/5/2012 4:22:00 PM

New Delhi, June 5 (IANS) A day after Congress president Sonia Gandhi attacked the opposition for hurling baseless corruption charges against the UPA government as part of a conspiracy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday hit back saying she had not done her homework properly.

Soniaji, you have not done your homework properly... what do you expect us to do when worst scams happen right under the prime minister (Manmohan Singh) and he does nothing? BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad asked.

We owe our duty to the people to articulate such views, he said.

The BJP leader said the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) had asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the alleged scam in allocation of coal blocks 2006-09, when the prime minister headed the ministry, only after two parliamentarians from the BJP complained about it.

Defending the prime minister against corruption charges levelled by the BJP and Team Anna, Gandhi had attacked the opposition for levelling baseless charges against the Congress and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government led by it and said it was being done as part of a conspiracy.

Prasad reminded Gandhi that she had promised to act against corruption at the Congress conclave in Burari in Delhi last year but saw the BJP's allegations of corruption against the government as a conspiracy while addressing the CWC meeting Monday.

Last year in Burari you had said you will act against corruption... now you allege conspiracy behind our charges, said Prasad.

Are A. Raja (jailed in 2G scam) and Suresh Kalmadi (jailed in CWG scam) BJP members? he asked.

Gandhi during the CWC meet Monday said: The recent baseless allegations against the prime minister, the UPA and the party seem to be part of a conspiracy.
