'Madagascar 3' rules box-office with 60.4 mn dollars opening
6/11/2012 12:27:00 PM

New York, June 11 (ANI): 'Madagascar 3', which earned a whopping 60.4 million dollars on its debut weekend, has raced ahead of much-awaited 'Prometheus', emerging as the box-office champ.

While 'Madagascar 3' earned an additional 75.5 million dollars overseas as well, 'Prometheus' too crossed the predicted mark of 50 million dollars profit and ended up second.

According to the Hollywood.com, both the movies also benefited from higher 3D ticket prices, the New York Daily reported.

It's a win-win for both movies, Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Hollywood.com said.

For an R rated sci-fi movie to do this kind of business - and Fox marketed the bejesus out of this with a smart campaign - they turned what could have been an art-house sci-fi movie into a blockbuster, he added. (ANI)
