UK Foreign Secretary William Hague arrives in Pakistan
6/12/2012 4:47:00 PM

Rawalpindi, June 12 (Xinhua-ANI): British Foreign Secretary William Hague arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday for talks on bilateral and regional issues, focusing on peace and security in the region, officials said.

The British Foreign Secretary will hold official talks with Pakistani Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar, later Tuesday and both will also speak at a joint press conference.

The visit follows the visit made by Foreign Minister Khar to London in March and Prime Minister Gilani in May and underlines the UK's commitment to a deep, long-term and strategic relationship between the UK and Pakistan based on mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual benefit, the British High Commission said.

During the visit, the Foreign Secretary will be discussing the strength of bilateral UK and Pakistan relations, the importance the UK attaches to the upcoming elections and the UK and Pakistan' s mutual interests in promoting stability in the region, ahead of the Kabul conference, it said.

Officials said that William Hague is scheduled to call on President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani. (Xinhua-ANI)
