Euro 2012 win has to sink in: Jordi Alba
7/2/2012 12:23:00 PM

Kiev, July 2 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Spain left-back Jordi Alba said Monday it will take time to realise he has become a part of history after scoring in Spain's 4-0 thrashing of Italy in the Euro 2012 final.

The Barcelona left-back was on target along with David Silva, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata in a victory that secured Spain's record third-successive major title.

Alba made it 2-0 just four minutes before half time, slotting past Gianluigi Buffon on Xavi's through pass.

It was my first final and we created history, Alba said. I'm very happy. I can't believe it, it has to sink in. I've also signed for Barcelona and now I want to celebrate with the national team. I also scored - my friends in Hospitalet [Alba's native city] told me I would.

Alba joined the Catalan side from Valencia Thursday for 14 million euros on a five-year deal.

He won the first of his 11 caps in the penultimate Euro 2012 qualifier against Scotland, and has played every minute of Spain's tournament. He racked up 92 appearances and 10 goals for Valencia.
