Srinagar, July 6 (IANS) One separatist guerrilla was killed and an army trooper and a police officer were wounded in a gunfight in north Kashmir's Kupwara district Friday morning, police said.

On specific information about the presence of guerrillas, army troops and police jointly surrounded a forest area in Bawan village near Zachaldara in Kupwara district early Friday, said a senior police officer.

As the troops were busy searching the area, hiding militants opened fire wounding an army trooper and a police officer. They were taken to hospital for treatment, he said.

One guerrilla was killed in the ensuing gunfight. Searches are still on in the forest area, he added.
