UAE football team trains in Switzerland for Olympics

Abu Dhabi, July 6 (IANS/WAM) The national football team of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has undergone training for the London Olympics at a camp in Crans-Montana resort in Switzerland.

The team's training camp began June 17 and ended July 2.

After landing in Geneva, the team was officially welcomed by Philippe Rubod, chief executive officer of Crans-Montana Tourism.

We in the resort are very proud to have been chosen by the UAE national team for their preparation for the next Olympic Games, he said.

The Hotel Royal in Crans-Montana accommodated the UAE team during their stay at the resort.

Renowned since 1893 for its extremely pure air, Crans-Montana enjoys a Mediterranean climate and is blessed with sunlight 300 days a year.

With five professional, FIFA-approved, football grounds, the resort offers excellent conditions for preparation of teams.

A friendly game was held against FC Sion, one of the best football teams in the region.

UAE team manager Mohammed Obaid Hammad said his players were in their best form, and were determined to make their nation proud of them.

The UAE is in a group with Uruguay, hosts Britain and Senegal.

The UAE players are Ismail Matar, Saud Saeed, Rashid Essa, Khaled Essa, Ali Mabkhout, Ali Khusaif, Khamis Ismail, Ali Al Amri, Habib Fardan, Saad Suroor, Abdul Aziz Haikal, Ismail Al Hammadi, Ahmed Khalil, Abdul Aziz Sanqoor, Omer Abdul Rahman, Dawood Sulieman, Mohammed Ahmed, Amer Abdul Rahman, Mohammed Fawzi, Haboush Saleh, Ahmed Ali, Mohammed Jaber and Hamdan Al Kamali.
