New Delhi/ Mumbai, July 12 (ANI): Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni on Thursday expressed deep grief over the passing away of former wrestling champion and veteran Bollywood actor Dara Singh.
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of Dara Singh. Dara Singh will always have a special place in our hearts for his immense contribution to the Indian film industry in various capacities, as an actor, director and producer, Soni said in her condolence message to members of the bereaved family.
She also recalled his distinguished record as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
May his soul rest in peace, she said.
Dara Singh, who was battling for his life in a Mumbai hospital for the last four days, passed away this morning. He was 84.
Dara Singh passed away peacefully at 7.30 a.m. this morning, said Ram Narain, COO, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where the actor was being treated before he was shifted to his Juhu home late on Wednesday night.
He is survived by his wife and six children - three sons and three daughters. One of his sons, Vindu Dara Singh, is a known name in showbiz.
Dara Singh, who has over 500 professional fights to his credit, played the role of Hanuman in the television adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayan. He also worked in some television serial shows, including Had Kar Di, which was aired on Zee TV.
He has acted in over 100 films. His last Hindi movie was Jab We Met, and last Punjabi movie was Dil Apna Punjabi. (ANI)
