Monchengladbach signs De Jong from Twente
7/18/2012 7:36:00 PM

The Hague, July 18 (IANS) Dutch club FC Twente and Borussia Monchengladbach have agreed on the transfer of Luuk de Jong to Germany, they announced Wednesday.

The 21-year-old forward signed a five-year contract with German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach. The transfer fee is reported to be around 15 million Euros, a record in both club's history, reports Xinhua.

Twente took over De Jong from De Graafschap in 2009. He scored 39 goals in 75 league matches for the Enschede based side. The forward made his debut for the Dutch team in February 2011 and has played seven internationals so far. He was also part of the Dutch squad at Euro 2012.

The Bundesliga will a lot of me and therefore I will have to perform at my best, De Jong said on the club's website.

As you know, you develop the fastest at maximum resistance. The resistance I will get in the Bundesliga and that challenge is exactly what I wanted. Despite the interest of many clubs, this is a very conscious choice.

Former Feyenoord player Luc Castaignos will probably be the successor of De Jong at FC Twente. The 19-year-old striker is under contract at Internazionale, but is available on loan.
