Islamabad, Aug 7 (IANS) Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday expressed deep concern over the loss of life and property of Rohingya Muslims in ethnic clashes in Myanmar.

The clashes took place in the western coastal state of Rakhine, Xinhua reported.

In July, Amnesty International said communal violence was continuing in western Myanmar six weeks after the government declared a state of emergency.

Much of the violence was directed at minority Muslim Rohingyas who have been beaten, raped and killed, the group said.

In a letter to the Myanmar president, Zardari called for hastening the process of rehabilitation of Rohingya Muslims so that they can return to their homes and lead a safe and secure life.

The Pakistani Senate has adopted a resolution, expressing serious concern at the recent reported attacks on Muslims in Myanmar.

Religious group in Pakistan urged the government to officially take up the issue with Myanmar.
