8/10/2012 9:29:00 PM

Chennai, Aug.10 (ANI): Former Maharshtra chief minister Ashok Chavan said on Friday that the health of Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh is stable.

Chavan said this after visiting the Deshmukh at the Global Hospitals and Health City.

We have come to see Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh. Of course, he is in the Intensive Care Unit. So, definitely, it was not advisable to see him personally. We have met the family members and what we understand, he is improving and his condition is quite stable, said Chavan.

Deshmukh, 67, is being treated for Hepatocellular Carcinoma, a form of liver cancer, which has led to multiple organ failure.

A team of doctors headed by renowned liver transplant surgeon, Dr. Mohamed Rela, is treating and monitoring Deshmukh's medical condition.

Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers, Muthuvel Karunanidhi Azhagiri, who also visited the hospital, said there was significant improvement in the patient's health.

Senior Congress leader from Kerala Ramesh Chennithala said: Vilasrao Deshmukh is improving. His condition is stable and we have talked to the doctors and other relatives. I feel that now he has improved a lot and we are all praying for his good health and earlier recovery. (ANI)
