New Delhi, Aug 23 (IANS) A day after it walked out of the joint parliamentary committee meeting on 2G spectrum allocation, the Bharatiya Janata Party called the Congress 'thethar' (obstinate), blaming it for not letting the panel function properly.

Talking to reporters in the parliament complex, senior party leader Yashwant Sinha slammed the government, calling it an expert in thethrology or the art of being obstinate.

They (Congress) want to scuttle the JPC probe. They went to the extent of saying that if you call (Prime Minister) Manmohan Singh, we will have (Atal Bihari) Vajpayee called, Sinha said.

The comments came a day after the BJP walked out of the JPC, blaming Congress members for using foul language.

There is enough evidence to suggest that the prime minister and the finance minister (P. Chidambaram) were involved, Sinha said.

The whole purpose is to indulge in corruption and cover it up, the BJP leader said.

Asked about the future course of action, Sinha said it would depend on the response from JPC chairperson P.C. Chacko.

We will await a response from the chairman. After considering his decision, we will decide our next move, Sinha said.

The BJP, at the Wednesday meeting of the JPC, got upset as members from the Congress did not agree to call the prime minister as a witness in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

The BJP members staged a walkout after a Congress member said, JPC is not a kangaroo court for the prime minister.

The Congress however hit back at the main opposition party, saying it was staging a pre-planned drama.

They had come prepared. We used no foul language. In fact, the chairman had not even taken a decision on whether the prime minister will be called or not, a Congress leader and member of the JPC said.
