Three policemen killed in attack in northwest Pakistan

Islamabad, Aug 23 (IANS) At least three policemen were killed and many others injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a police vehicle in Pakistan's northwest town of Hangu on Thursday morning, reports said.

The attack took place around 10 a.m. local time when unidentified gunmen ambushed a police vehicle on a patrol in the Kotki area of Hangu, a town located some 200 km southwest of Islamabad, reported Xinhua, citing local Urdu TV channel Dunya.

District officials in Hangu have confirmed the attack.

At least two policemen were injured in the attack, said the report.

Other details about the attack were not immediately available.

Over the last few months, Pakistani Taliban have launched a series of attacks on the army, security forces and police.
